The American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI) is a trade organization that represents about 280 member companies operating in the U.S. and abroad. They advocate in state, federal and international forums for public policy that supports the industry and the families that depend on life insurers’ products for financial security.
ACLI was looking for a new technology platform for their external facing and members’ only websites. The sites were built in SharePoint and highly customized to the point of becoming sensitive to updates and adjustments required to maintain the site. Additionally, developer support resources for maintenance issues were not only costly, but a challenge as well, because the primary vendor was located in Western Europe causing response time delays to support requests. Additionally, ACLI was looking to offer their publishers and web staff they ability to create and distribute large amounts of content on demand without support outside of their department.
ACLI was considering a move to Sitecore as their new Content Management System (CMS) when they engaged RDA as their SharePoint support vendor. Following a thorough discovery process, Sitecore proved the best for ACLI’s needs and they selected RDA as the vendor to assist with the planning and migration addressing local control and support, public and private sites, integration with IMIS (a member management tool), and reduction of operational expense.
The migration from SharePoint to Sitecore represented a significant collaboration effort between RDA and the ACLI team with daily discussions about the project and next steps. As migration approached completion, RDA lead several training sessions with the ACLI publishers and web staff for knowledge transfer ensuring the team had the tools needed to manage content on their own using the new technology.
ACLI launched two new website that can now be modified or updated on their own without concern for site disruption. The Sitecore platform was leveraged to deliver both sites -- public and members only. The solution met ACLI’s content challenge providing their publishers and web staff the ability to access, create and distribute content on demand with outside intervention. In addition to this autonomy and control, ACLI realized significant savings per month in SharePoint licensing fees and hosting, which is now provided by an Azure Cloud environment managed by RDA.
