A new fund management system modernizes legacy technology, improving usability and efficiency

This engagement is for one of the world’s largest and most active venture capital firms. The company–founded more than 35 years ago–is focused on technology and healthcare sectors, with offices across the U.S. and abroad.

Challenge

The firm’s internal fund management system relied on an older technology stack, compromising performance. It was also challenging to find technical resources who were skilled in the older technology, making maintenance and updates increasingly difficult to execute.

A large amount of collateral documentation was housed within the system as well, and many people and systems were required to interface with it, generating even more data and reports that had to be centrally stored. This added to the system’s performance and support issues. The user interface itself had also begun to show its age, forcing users to drill down through multiple layers to access the information they needed.

Solution

RDA defined a new architecture for the system that will both modernize it and make it more amenable to integration with other systems that are already in place. Attention to user experience design is bringing improvements to the interface and overall usability. With an agile process approach, the project’s development plan is being executed iteratively with involvement and cooperation of the client’s in-house development team.

Results

As the modernized system is based upon industry standard tools and practices, the client will have an application that is easier to maintain, more extensible as the business evolves, and will provide an improved performance profile.
