GreenCourt Legal Technologies makes possible the electronic filing of court documents in Georgia, adapting technology to meet the needs of judges, court clerks, attorneys and the general public. Its PeachCourtTM system serves 1,300 trial courts across the state.
GreenCourt Legal Technologies had eight weeks to deploy a viable e-filing product for the Georgia court system. The product would be launched in a single county initially, and later scaled for implementation across the state’s 159 counties, each with as many as five unique court systems.
The e-filing solution includes an intuitive user interface for what in reality is a complex process, and accommodates the input, review, storage and management of documents for all types of court filings, from civil to criminal. Processing time for each filing has been reduced from 30 minutes for a paper filing to three minutes for an e-filing.
Upon acceptance of an e-filing, a series of events is triggered. Fee assessment and processing, document stamping, document signing and email notifications are part of the newly-automated workflow, as well as generation of several forms that previously required completion by handwriting or typewriter. The solution is entirely cloud-based, with no infrastructure requiring capital investment or ongoing management.
Every legal case may include up to 10 or more filings, with nearly two million filings occurring each year in the state of Georgia alone. The reduction of processing time by an average of 90 percent represents a substantial time and cost savings for the justice system. In addition, the cost to run the new system is tied directly to revenue, increasing as additional customers are added to the system.
