Propelling Performance with Data Driven Decisions

Pandora designs, manufactures and markets hand-finished and contemporary jewelry made from high-quality materials at affordable prices. Founded in 1982 and based in Copenhagen, Denmark, the company employs over 16,700 people world-wide. Pandora offers a wealth of charms, bracelets, earrings, necklaces and pendants, providing women the opportunity to express their personal style.

Challenge

Pandora jewelry is sold in more than 100 countries on six continents through approximately 9,000 points of sales including more than 1800 concept stores. Data is collected in a number of systems including point of sale, web sites and customer relationship management software. Analysis of this disconnected data often reported inconsistencies and sometimes conflicting information. Pandora recognized there was an opportunity increase revenue and profits by making use of a data warehouse that provides a gold source of clean, accurate information for faster and more effective decision making.

Solution

Pandora engaged RDA to design and build a data warehouse that consolidated data from all aspects of the firm’s North American operations. Critical to its success, the warehouse standardizes Pandora’s reporting and metrics and provides more analytics to its finance, sales, merchandizing, marketing and retail users.

The data warehouse tracks the entire lifecycle of items, from viewing the original wholesale costs and sales to tracking retailer performance. Data compilation and extraction are completely automated. Users work with the familiar Microsoft Excel to query the data, and are no longer required to learn Structured Query Language (SQL) or rely on technical personnel to get access to data sources. They also take advantage of Microsoft’s PowerView to satisfy their graphical reporting requirements.

Results

Today, Pandora users benefit from easy access to key metrics covering profitability, response to marketing promotions, geographic demand and customer tendencies. This information, which Pandora deems essential for running their business, positions the company to make better decisions leading to increases in revenue, profits and efficiency.
