Azure Portal Connects Franchisees From Around the World

An Atlanta-based company is the franchisor and operator of over 4,500 ice cream shops, bakeries, restaurants, and cafés in the United States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and 60 foreign countries.


Our client needed a solution to authenticate franchisees and provide them access to key internal functions. They had some experience with cloud technologies, but had done much of their existing development in house. Creating a custom authentication portal proved complex and would also require additional development and resources to manage user credentials. They needed a solution that was fast and flexible, leveraged industry standard authentication protocols, and allowed users to manage their own account. Ideally, this solution would provide a portal and the capability to map users to a set of applications for which they had been granted access.


RDA quickly implemented Azure AD authentication and developed an Azure portal which addressed three primary needs; provide authorized users with access to various franchise specific SharePoint sites, allow administrators to control access requests and manage group memberships, and allow for weekly sales data to be easily entered.

Now, when a franchise opens, the manager submits his/her credentials to request and gain access to information specific to their brand. From there, that person is then able to upload their weekly sales data and manage their own profile.


Currently, over 1000 franchisees are utilizing the portal and entering weekly sales data. The client is enjoying an easier way to provide support to franchisees, staying updated on sales data, and having a platform that is scalable as more franchisees use the portal.
